Uninsured and Underinsured Drivers

There is a tendency to focus on bodily injury limits when purchasing auto insurance but you also should consider your uninsured and underinsured limits (aka UM Limits).  State of NH requires the UM limits to be the same as the bodily injury but most states you have the option of different limits.

The national average of uninsured drivers exceeds 14% but the number of drivers with low liability limits is far greater.  If such a driver should hit you will they have enough coverage for your injuries.  This is where your Uninsured or more important Underinsured limit would be important.

In some states you can increase your UM limits by adding a personal umbrella.  It is important to work with your agent so they understand your situation and desired insurance needs.  I have attached a recent article on Uninsured and Underinsured motorist coverage and why it is important to understand.  Click here for article.

As always your agent is willing to discuss coverage considerations.
